Day 139: The Path with Most Light
So the thought for today is this idea of taking the path with most light. Often in life I find that we’re given multiple choices. I’ve found in my own life therefore that there’s always a moment where you really do have to consider how the future may look. If you take one course of action over the other you end up ruling out certain pros and cons, but if you stay within your comfort zone than you limit yourself to what you know. It calls to mind that wonderful maxim by Saint Augustine, “the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."
So to travel or not?
Being a person who loves adventure and whose fears of the unknown are always based off of whether or not I feel as though I can deal with the outcome, I tend to think about choices in terms of what that path may hold. For example, when I decided what I wanted to do as my old store was closing down and transitioning into a bargain book store, I thought to myself, do I want to pursue unemployment insurance to live off of while I try to startup Urban Minerals, or do I want to work at Whole Foods, where sure my time will be split but I’ll have access to so much knowledge that I may not get from going solo. Which was a HUGE decision point for me. And at that time I had no idea which choice would hold the most positivity for me.
But just as things were coming down to the wire, I stumbled upon this wonderful idea. That idea being, which path holds more light.
The path with most light refers to using your intuitive abilities to think about each potential future. If you can think about what each path might hold and which one speaks to you clearly, with the least amount of interference from you to make it work, than you have your decision made for you. Clear your mind, and think clearly about the pros and cons of each and if one lights up more, with more pros, (the unlimited kind), then that’s the one you should go for, full steam ahead.
And so that’s exactly what I did. I thought about it and thought about it and figured that I would just learn so much from the environment at Whole Foods, that the customers I would meet would give me some kind of insight and I would probably get more knowledge, information and really inspiration for Urban Minerals that I took it as a no brainer and went for it.
Which payed off!
I’ve had more training in my 3 months at Whole Foods, then I’ve had in the last 5 years working in other retail jobs, had more access to trade shows and other businesses and can say that I’ve been more supported here than anywhere else. Hands down this was the best choice for me. Just this morning I got to attend two awesome trainings, one from a enzyme supplements company and the other from an incredibly ethical essential oil company and ended up with a new contact where I can do some potential sourcing.
Like holy cow, path with most light, holy cow!
This is all just a wonderful reminder that you have the power to make amazing choices for yourself. And all you really have to do is think of it in terms of, how will this path light up my life? And then go for the brighter one. Take the time, think it through and start to realize that you can travel through life and read many pages, you just have to give it a little thought first. Thanks Saint Augustine!
