Day 27: Be Open
Today was a day of relaxation and good conversation. Most of it was spent outdoors, enjoying the fine weather, the fresh air and the breeze through the trees. One of the outcomes was a deeper sense of connection to the earth and to those people around me, which is something that I love embracing each day as it comes at me.
I think days like this are so necessary. Like I’ve said before it’s as much a necessity to work hard as it is to play hard and now I would also like to add relax hard too. On the long weekend Monday, when you would otherwise normally be at work, back at the grind, there is no better time than to do just the opposite. Stop, smell the roses, breath it all in and get back to basics.
So here, try this. Sit with your eyes closed while you’re outside, or anywhere really, and just listen. Listen so that you begin to hear what’s going on around you. You will surprise yourself in that you’ll start to hear all sorts of things that you wouldn’t normally hear. This is a wonderful practice for staying present in the moment and it works like a charm. Next, open your eyes and just sit and try to perceive what’s in your peripherals. Again, you’ll surprise yourself at how much you’re really picking up on in the world. Do these things once a day and I can guarantee boredom will recede from your life.
